Carpentry and Wood Restoration in Orlando, FL
Carpentry and wood restoration for Orlando homes, from rotted trim to door frames, window sills, decks and fences. We repair or replace the bad wood, and then our painters finish it to match the rest of the house.
How do I spot rotted trim?
Press on it. Rotted wood feels soft or spongy, and a screwdriver tip sinks in where it should stop. Other signs are paint that keeps peeling in the same spot, dark stains, open joints and swelling at the bottom of door frames and window trim, where water collects.
Why does trim rot in Central Florida?
Water gets in and stays. UF/IFAS Extension warns that heavy seasonal rains force water into any defect in a building, and Orlando averages 51.45 inches of rain a year, according to the National Weather Service. Wood that stays wet breaks down, and UF experts note that mold can grow on almost any material that stays wet for more than about two days.
Open joints, cracked caulk and bare spots where the paint has worn away are where the water gets in. Patching and caulking those spots is part of every exterior painting job we do.
What wood can you repair or replace?
Trim, door frames and window sills on the house, and decks and fences out in the yard.
Small soft spots can sometimes be cut out and filled. Boards that are soft all the way through, split or crumbling come out and are replaced with new wood. We look at the damage in person before we write the estimate, so you know which boards are being repaired and which are being replaced.
What happens after the wood is fixed?
New or repaired wood on the house is painted to match the trim around it. A deck or fence that’s sound again can be stained; see deck and wood staining. Damaged boards along the roof edge are their own job, handled through soffit and fascia replacement. Cabinet doors that need a wood repair before a new finish go with cabinet refinishing.
