Deck and Wood Staining in Orlando, FL

Deck staining for Orlando homes, along with fences and wood doors. We wash and sand the wood first, then apply a transparent, semi-transparent or solid stain, and decks are sealed.

How do I know my deck or fence needs stain?

Try the water test. Sprinkle some water on the boards, and if it soaks in and darkens the wood right away, the old finish has worn off. Gray, weathered boards, raised splinters and bare patches on the steps are other signs that it’s time.

What do Florida sun and rain do to outdoor wood?

A deck or fence sits out in full Florida weather. The sun is strong here, and the EPA’s UV Index guide says UV levels peak from April to August. Orlando also averages 51.45 inches of rain a year, according to the National Weather Service.

Wood that stays wet is a problem of its own. UF experts say mold can grow on almost any material that stays wet for more than about two days. Shaded boards that stay damp after a storm deserve a close look, so point them out when we visit.

What prep happens before the stain goes on?

Washing, then sanding. Dirt, mildew and worn-out finish keep new stain from soaking in, so the wood gets washed first. Sanding follows.

Before we stain, we protect the plants and surfaces next to the work. If the deck or fence only needs a wash for now, our pressure washing service can be booked on its own.

How do transparent, semi-transparent and solid stains differ?

They differ in how much of the wood you still see. A transparent stain adds the least color and lets the grain show the most. Semi-transparent adds more color and keeps the grain visible. A solid stain covers the grain, while the texture of the boards still shows through.

Decks are sealed. Have a photo of a look you like? Show it to us at the estimate visit, and we’ll talk through which stain type fits it.

Can you stain a front door?

Yes. Wood doors are part of our staining work, along with decks and fences. If you’re freshening up the front of the house, a stained door pairs well with garage door painting, and the walls and trim are covered by our exterior painting service.

When you call, tell us about every piece of wood you’d like stained, so we can look at all of it in one visit and talk through colors while we’re there. The cities we cover are listed on our service areas page, and our Orlando page comes first.

Yes. Decks are sealed as part of the staining job.

Do you sand the wood before staining?

Yes. The wood is washed and sanded before any stain goes on.

Do you stain fences as well as decks?
